Established
in 1982, Center for Working Life (CWL)
is a non-profit organization providing
innovative consultation and training services to employed and unemployed
workers and the organizations that serve them. Services are based
on an understanding of the central role that works plays in the
lives of workers and their families. Drawing on a unique blend of
professional training and direct work experience we have been able
to deliver services and training that are accessible, appropriate
and effective for working people.
Center for Working Life Staff
The staff of the Center for Working Life
(CWL) includes professionals from the fields of social work, education
and psychology. Prior to joining CWL, staff work backgrounds ranged
from teaching to work on the assembly line and from social work
to union organizing. This breadth of experience, and the insight
that comes from that experience, is one of the greatest strengths
of the Center.
Lee Schore, L.C.S.W., Executive Director of CWL, is
an internationally recognized expert on the effect of work, and
the absence of work, on workers and their families. She has pioneered
the development of occupational stress groups, the use of a peer
support model in dislocated worker programs, and the development
of an integrated support services model to deliver effective services
to workers and adult learners. Her background includes more than
30 years of experience as a social worker, counseling psychologist,
teacher, assembly line worker, and union activist. Since 1991, Ms.
Schore has been a Senior Policy Consultant for the U.S. Department
of Labor helping to develop services for dislocated workers in Bulgaria,
Poland and Ukraine.
Terry Day, Ph.D., Senior Consultant, brings
a breadth of experience that includes years as an auto worker, working
with youth, women in the welfare system, clients in mental health
delivery systems, minority students in community colleges. Dr. Day
is an expert in dealing with issues of diversity in the workplace
and in the community. He has been working with the Center since
1985.
